I ran the Chicago Marathon on October 11. I had planned on writing about my training starting the week after, but I ended up getting sick a couple days later and had to take several days off. By the 18th, I was starting to feel a little better. By the 20th, I felt completely recovered from the sickness and the marathon.

Back on September 20th, I did a 2 hour 15 min joggle which caused me to get De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. For the next couple weeks, my right wrist was very painful and I wasn’t able to juggle at all. This was the first week I’ve juggled since the incident— my old wrist has felt good so far!

I'm alive and feeling fine

Hello one and all... Was it you I used to know?

It is 6:30 PM and the Woodpeckers (Brewers) will be starting in Game 2 of the World Series at 7 so I don’t have much time, but I’ve been meaning to put out an update on my running.

The last time I said anything on here was last May, back when I was burning myself out working 48 hour shifts, in a state of constant sleep deprivation and unable to train with any kind of consistency.

Things remained ugly throughout June. On 6/20, I ran a PW (personnel worst) at Grandma's Marathon a few days after having worked a 48er without any sleep. In July, I was able to switch to 10 hour shifts. Oftentimes, these shifts would turn into 11 or 12 hours and I was expected to work at least two weekends every month. My running gradually improved, but was still pretty lousy. From July-September, I typically ran 60-70 miles/week and got about 40 hours of sleep/week. Ideally, I would like to be running and sleeping twice that much (120-140 miles and 80 hours sleeping per week).

In August, I moved from my place near downtown Madison to the southwest suburb of Fitchburg. I am right next to the VeloUnderound, an intersection where several trails intersect, so I have an abundance of running routes to choose from.

At  the end of September, I quit the ambulance business and got a job working at a clinic. I generally liked working as a paramedic for Ryan Bros, but the long hours and mandatory weekend shifts became too much. With my new clinic job, I am working 8-hour shifts Monday thru Fri- much more conducive to training and living better. I also like being able to help people manage their health before it becomes an emergency.

I’m going to try to get back in the habit of posting my weekly training on this site, as I am now able to run every day and sleep every nite. Maybe i will even write a story or some poetry once in a while. Things are about to get so much better!

There’s a few more things I would’ve liked to have mentioned and this all sounds very rushed but I’m a slow typist and it is 6:58 so I gotta go cheer on the peckers. Ahhh!  Ahhhh! Ahhhh! That's it, gotta go. Ahhh!
