A 30 min run over residential streets. Knee was more achy than this morning but it never became too painful. It was mostly cloudy and 40°.

Still taking small steps, but at least I’m moving in the right direction.

A couple months ago, I was looking forward to pouring it on at the La Crosse Marathon on May 2 and Grandma’s on June 20. Now, I would consider it a success if I’m able to complete those marathons without any knee issues.

Another week made up of mostly run-walks. I think/hope I’m trending in the right direction. My knee is better than it was a couple weeks ago, though it’s still bugging me.

I’m waiting for the day when I can run again

Sun, Mar 8-Sat, Mar 14

Sun Mar 8 - DNR - Resting my broken knee.

Mon Mar 9: PM. Walked ~40 mins with a couple short futile attempts at running- knee was acting up. It was dark and around 60°.

Tues Mar 10: AM. Ran about 5 mins until knee became too painful.

Wed Mar 11: AM. Physical therapy appointment. Ran 1 mile on treadmill- no knee pain. PT suspects my right knee + muscles in rt leg are weaker than the left side. Did knee exercises- wall sits, sit to stand/single leg squats, side steps with band, single leg forward lean, wall squats.

Fri Mar 13 - DNR - Walked 45 mins (pain-free). It was dark and 44° with 30+ mph winds from the south.

Sat Mar 14: AM. Ran 3 mins, walked 1 min x 10. The knee became noticeable about 5 mins in. It became a nuisance around 10 mins in, but never became too painful. It was mostly cloudy and 27°.

We think it’s getting better but nobody’s really sure

Sun, Mar 1-Sat, Mar 7

Sun Mar 1 - DNR - Walked about 22 miles around Lake Mendota. The knee was achy just walking. It was 9° when starting off at 5:30 AM and in the mid 20s + sunny by the end (close to noon).

Mon Mar 2 - DNR - Walked about a mile. Knee is still achy walking. Tried running for 1 second and knee became painful.

Tues Mar 3 - DNR - Injured right knee.

Wed Mar 4 - DNR - Had knee checked out at the Bone & Joint Clinic in Plover. X-rays didn’t show anything (as I’d expected). Got prescribed Meloxicam, an anti-inflammatory medication.

Thurs Mar 5 - DNR - Knee isn’t as achy when bending it or walking around. I think the Meloxicam is helping. Might try a test run tomorrow.

Fri Mar 6: AM. Ran 4 mins. Knee was ok for about 30 seconds, then became more and more painful. It was dark and foggy, temp in the low 40s.

Sat Mar 7: AM. Walked 1 min, ran 1 min x 10 or 11. Knee was getting more achy with each minute of running. It was cloudy and in the upper 50s. PM. In Stevens Point, walked the Point Bock course. It was cloudy and around 40° -Great racing weather!

The DNR-streak continueshooray for the DNR!

I’ll be seeing a physical therapist next week. If the knee doesn’t show significant improvement after a few weeks of PT, I’ll lobby for an MRI.
