After taking another week off from running, the knee has continued to bug me. The “gradual approach” hasn’t seemed to be working too well. I’ve decided to throw common sense out the window, take advice from Jake Barraclough and “train harder, not smarter”. The past few days I’ve been doing short doubles and trying to ignore the achiness in my knee. I’m hoping the knee will become immune to the achy pain and forget about it completely after a bit. I will of course stop if the knee becomes too painful, like on Friday evening’s run. Most of the time though, the achiness in my knee has been tolerable. If the knee still doesn’t get better after another week or so, then I’ll look into getting an AKA.

Sometimes I write

Many moons ago, back when I had a healthy knee and was running twice a day everyday, I thought about writing a silly poem called “Sometimes I run”. Then I got injured and couldn’t run and I never did write that poem. Maybe someday it will see the light of day. Hopefully. Today, I decided to use the same pattern and flow I had in mind for that poem, but to change the theme from “running” to “writing”. This poem is called “Sometimes I write”.

Sometimes I write to put my mind at ease

Sometimes I write to better understand

Sometimes I write to please

Sometimes I write because I like the way a pencil feels in my hand

Sometimes I write quite messy

Sometimes I write quite neat

Sometimes I write essays

Sometimes I write stories that don’t contain any meat

Sometimes I write pretty well (or so I kid myself)

Sometimes I write sh*t (most of the time)

Sometimes I write stories that are swell (I store them on my shelf)

Sometimes I write bits that rhyme

Sometimes I write left

Sometimes I left write

Sometimes I right wrong

Sometimes I write things that don’t make sense and don’t even rhyme

Sometimes I write when I’m high

Sometimes I write when I’m low

Sometimes I write goodbye

Sometimes I write hello

Sometimes I write things inspired by Paul McCartney

Sometimes I write things I think up on my own

Sometimes I write while I’m at a ball or a party

Sometimes I write while I’m home all alone

Sometimes I write on a notepad

Sometimes I write on a slab of wood

Sometimes I write bad

Sometimes I write good

Sometimes I write like Stephen King

Sometimes I write like Poe

Sometimes I write like a mindless ding-a-ling

Sometimes I write like an average joe

Sometimes I write when I’m stuck in the block

Sometimes I write when I’m in the groove

Sometimes I write when I’m taking a walk

Sometimes I write when I’m on the move

Sometimes I write in the morning

Sometimes I write at night

Sometimes I write pieces that are boring

Sometimes I write pieces that excite

Sometimes I write poems that are very repetitive

Once in a while, I like to mix it up (Really threw you off there, didn’t I?)

Sometimes I write about being competitive

Sometimes I write about pie

Sometimes I write for the love

Or for the money

For the f*ck of it

Or just because

Sometimes I write for fun

Sometimes I write when I’m in pain

Sometimes I write in the sun

Sometimes I write in the rain

Sometimes I write till my pencil dulls

Sometimes I write till my head starts to ache

Sometimes I write till my mind lulls

That’s when I know it is time to take a break

If you were a Beatles song, which Beatles song would you be?

I often like to think of myself as a Beatles song. Most days I am something happy and optimistic like Getting Better or Here Comes the Sun. Of course, there are also days when I’m a Loser or The Fool on the Hill. Once in a while I’ll binge out on chocolates and I turn right into the Savoy Truffle. Depending on my mood or the day, I can change into just about any Beatles song. Right now I’m so Tired. For the past few weeks I have just been so tired.

I can’t sleep, I can’t stop my brain

It’s three weeks, I’m going insane

You know I’d give you everything I’ve got for a little peace of mind

Since I’ve been injured and haven’t been running, I haven’t been able to sleep as well. Every night my hyper-active brain races at a hundred miles an hour asking itself these silly rhetorical questions like, which Beatles song are you? It’s All Too Much. I wish I could just turn it off. If only there were a button inserted on the top of my head that I could press that would shut everything down. Then I could close my eyes, go to sleep and maybe turn into Golden Slumbers or I’m Only Sleeping.

Argghgggaahh. There were a couple days where I thought the knee was maybe showing some improvement. But nope. These last few days it’s been achy and painful and now I’m starting to wonder if it’ll ever get better. Might take a week or two off, then test it out again and if it’s still not better maybe I’ll get an MRI and figure out what is wrong with it.
